Alltel Wireless announced that it is now providing EVDO-based Axcess Broadband in the South Carolina cities of Columbia and Florence, several cities in East Texas and west Texas, including Lubbock, and the New Mexico cities of Hobbs, Roswell, Artesia and Carlsbad. The service provides Internet and e-mail access, as well as the ability to download large files—using laptops, smartphones and other handsets—at speeds ranging from 400 to 700 kb/s, with spikes up to 2.4 Mb/s, the carrier said. The service retails for $59.99 per month with unlimited use, with a qualifying voice plan.
