NEC Electronics America and Ariane Controls introduced the Ariane PLM-1, a power-line, single-chip digital modem integrated circuit for utilities. The modem enables the use of multiple protocols within one power-line network or in a given application. It delivers programmable transmission rates ranging from 100 to 30,000 baud and frequency range from 50 to 500 kHz. It operates across temperatures from –40 to + 85 degrees Celsius and complies with the RoHS standard that restricts the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Targeted applications include building automation, command-and-control communications, street light monitoring and automatic meter reading.
