Data link technology tested at New Mexico Air Force base

L-3 Communications recently tested its IP-enabled, wideband multi-platform common data link (MP-CDL) solution on aircraft launching from Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. The MP-CDL enabled multiple high-bandwidth video streams, video teleconferencing, VoIP and Internet access from the aircraft to the Global Information Grid, the Internet and the public-switched telephone network. The company transmitted the data using the Department of Defense’s Network CDL, Standard CDL and Advanced CDL waveforms at data rates up to 274 Mb/s, with ranges beyond 300 nautical miles.
