Nokia and T-Mobile team up on 3G

Nokia signed a contract with T-Mobile USA to supply third-generation wireless equipment and services to support T-Mobile’s WCDMA 3G rollout in the U.S., contingent upon the Federal Communications Commission’s award of advanced wireless services (AWS) spectrum. Nokia’s high-speed packet access is a software upgrade to the company’s WCDMA networks and is made up of two technologies—high-speed downlink packet access and high-speed uplink packet access, which offers data speeds up to 14.4 Mbps in the downlink and up to 5.8 Mbps in the uplink.
