Orlando police department deploys wireless video-surveillance system

The Orlando Police Department deployed a real-time video-surveillance solution from Firetide and Avrio Group during the Sebring auto race, which welcomed about 170,000 attendees. The department used the system to monitor the grandstand area and the competitor paddock—an area where racing cars are parked and prepared for the race. Avrio’s Rapid Deployment Surveillance Solution incorporated wired and wireless cameras into a single system that sent video in real time to laptops in police cars over the 4.9 GHz public-safety licensed band. The foundation of the system is the Avrio Polecam, a portable unit housed in a weatherized enclosure that contains a high-end camera and a Firetide HotPort wireless mesh node, according to the companies.
