Army contractor added to develop satellite network equipment

Carlsbad, Calif.-based ViaSat will develop the satellite ground equipment for the U.S. Army’s Force XXI satellite network upgrade. This includes building a prototype network and terminals under an initial $9.3 million contract from system integrator Northrop Grumman Corp. The network is a digital command-and-control system that uses GPS navigation signals and communication satellites, according to ViaSat.
