PCIA zoning strategy conference offers industry, government perspectives

Oct 11, 2002 12:00 PM

PCIA

, a membership organization for wireless infrastructure companies in Alexandria, Va., will host a day-long seminar that a statement from the association said is “dedicated to helping stakeholders in wireless infrastructure siting gain comprehensive understanding of the legal, regulatory and business considerations relative to zoning.”

In a prepared statement, Jay Kitchen, PCIA’s president, said, “The zoning process is critical to wireless infrastructure companies’ ability to meet their customers’ needs. Zoning activities cost wireless infrastructure companies millions of dollars and countless man-hours each year. We’re conducting this seminar to foster collaboration between industry and local government and to attempt to reduce the cumbersome nature that has come to characterize so many zoning proceedings.”

Featured panelists represent the tower owners and managers, carriers, county governments, the federal government and expert consultants. Selected topics include:

  • section 704 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 as it relates to infrastructure siting.

  • local government perspective to zoning.

  • regulatory requirements relative to historic preservation and environmental compliance.

  • developing a zoning strategy and preparing for a hearing.

The seminar is scheduled for Oct. 23 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va.
