Dataradio upgrades mobile data system for Springfield

Atlanta — Dataradio has upgraded the existing Dataradio mobile data system for the city of Springfield, Mo.
The existing network operated at 9.6 kbps. The upgrade was completed in May, and the system is currently operating at 25.6 kbps in the 800-MHz frequency range. The network uses Dataradio’s GeminiPD mobile radio modems along with the ParagonPD data base stations.
The first phase of the project included installation of 80 GeminiPD radio modems with GPS. Springfield has placed an order with Dataradio for the second phase of the project, which includes adding 50 radio modems.
The modems and base stations use dual receivers to decode messages simultaneously, working in multipath and fading environments. Parallel Decode technology, along with a DSP-based modem, is supposed to produce fewer retries and more effective throughput, according to the company’s press release.
