Terrorists hide among other visitors to penetrate U.S., attorney general warns

In testifying before the House Select Committee on Homeland Security, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft warned that terrorists posing as tourists, businessmen and students are trying to penetrate U.S. borders.

The attorney general used his testimony to deliver his support for President Bush’s proposal to create a cabinet-level Homeland Security Department, elevating the function now carried out within the White House and moving into the new department a number of existing federal agencies from other departments.
