Palo Alto, Ca.— HP will host a technical workshop on creating highly trusted Internet applications for use in homeland defense and natural emergencies.

HP issued a call for participation in a workshop titled, “Accelerating Trustworthy Internetworking,” The even will be held at HP headquarters Sept. 3–5, a week before the first anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center towers. It is intended to bring together interested parties from both the public and private sectors.

“In the wake of Sept. 11, there’s an urgent need to develop high-grade commercial security for critical and pervasive applications,” said Stephen Squires HP vice president. “Several companies and research organizations are establishing IPv6 and Ipv4/Ipsec test beds with the potential to enable new kinds of applications for use in threats to homeland security or in the event of natural disaster.”

Participants from the industry, government and academia are invited to submit topics for the workshop in a wide variety of areas, including user communities, applications, services, bitways and associated measurement and management systems. Participation is limited and is by invitation only by the workshop’s program committee. Additional information is available through http://www.ati2002.org. HP is hosting the event as a community service and in an effort to establish new and more effective approaches for private and public sector cooperation.
