Israel-based NICE Systems said it would purchase Dictaphone’s Communications Recording Systems business for about $38.5 million. NICE expects the transaction to close by the end of the second quarter this year.

As a result of the transaction, first responders, critical infrastructure, transportation and financial industry customers currently being served by Dictaphone systems will gain the additional benefit of NICE’s multimedia analytics solutions, which enable assessments of telephony, Web, radio and video communications systems to improve performance, the company said.

In other news, NICE announced that it has been awarded a $2 million contract from iXP Corp. and the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) to deploy its emergency communications management system. The contract follows a similar deployment with the New York City Police Department. The solution will provide a "fully redundant, highly reliable system for locating and disseminating information more quickly and efficiently than with their current system," NICE said.

FDNY Chief Information Officer Don Stanton said in a statement that the solution would “help us meet required standards for emergency communications and reduce the time and resources required to search, analyze and distribute records."
