TAMPA--Positron Public Safety Systems announced VIPER CAD, its new computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system that features a flexible, scalable architecture and a unique user interface, at the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) annual conference this week.

An IPC company, Positron designed VIPER CAD to integrate existing Positron product suites via the Microsoft .Net platform, allowing scalable deployments for more than 1000 call-taker positions—ideal for large public safety answering points (PSAPs) or virtual consolidation of multiple PSAPs, said Scott Pate, Positron’s product manager.

In addition, the solution offers considerable flexibility, with the ability to work with map-driven, command-driven or grid-driven systems, Pate said.

“It basically offers ‘your agency, your way,’” he said during an interview with MRT.

Further customization is available at the interface level, Pate said. While most solutions require a different screen for each application, VIPER CAD allows users to mix and match applications across any number of displays, he said.

“As far as I’m aware, we’re the only one doing that,” Pate said, noting that the capability was developed internally by Positron.

Used in live operations since April 2008, VIPER CAD is available immediately, Pate said.
