Members of a San Francisco budget and finance committee yesterday expressed concerns about several unknown issues associated with a regional LTE network for first responders, but they agreed unanimously to forward the final decision on the Motorola Solutions project to the board of supervisors without a recommendation.

It’s been quite an educational journey, watching the public-safety industry move from a high-niche industry to one now poised to leverage the commercial advantages of LTE technology. I can’t wait to see how it plays out.

All first responders can use these national interoperable TAC channels in mobile or portable units, without needing a license for their operation, with only a few exceptions.

Last week, the FCC named network engineering consultant Robert Pavlak to direct its Emergency Response Interoperability Center. This week, it named Rasoul Safavian to the ERIC team as senior engineer.
