Relm Wireless is working with Bluffdale, Utah-based Trulite, to offer a hydrogen fuel cell power system for use with its BK Radio Rapid Deployment Portable Repeater. Because the system employs fuel cartridges that contain dry sodium borohydride, it also can be used indoors. The system provides output voltage of 5 VDC, 12 VDC and 120 VAC, and continuous power and peak power of 150 W and 250 W (five minutes), respectively.

Relm also introduced at IWCE 2008 in Las Vegas this week its S Series base station/repeater that offers 255 channels, 50 W power output and programmable linking. It operates over frequencies from 30 to 870 MHz. Relm describes the device as the smallest full-spec base station/repeater in its class.

In other news, Relm President Dave Storey discussed the company’s plans to expand its BK Radio KNG P150, which Storey has described as the smallest and lightest Project 25-compatible, Class A spec radio on the market. The radio currently is available in a VHF version that the FCC has type accepted. Storey said the company would have UHF, 700 MHz and 800 MHz versions ready by July, and that plans are in place to introduce mobile radios, repeaters and base stations in each band to the line next year.
