DATA RADIO FOR UTILITIES

Freewave Technologies announced the LRS455 licensed radio for the gas, water/wastewater, electric and municipality markets. The radio offers 19.2 kb/s throughput on a 12.5 kHz channel, a 70-mile range and RF propagation characteristics in 430-470 MHz frequencies at 2 watts. It is suited for long-distance SCADA applications located within rough terrain or heavy tree coverage.

SMART ENERGY PRODUCTS

Digi International introduced its Smart Energy product suite for utilities, including ZigBee-ready modules and certified Energy Service Portal (ESP) gateways built on such modules. The modules' firmware supports the ESP gateways, metering devices, in-premise display devices, programmable communicating thermostats (PCTs), load controllers, range extenders, smart appliances and prepayment terminals. The ConnectPort X2 ESP gateway provides the connection between a consumer's home-area network and an energy service provider over a broadband or cellular connection.

Columbitech announced the FIPS 140-2-certified Mobile VPN with security and session persistence for public-safety agencies and other emergency-service departments. Based on the Transport Layer Security (TLS) standard, the Mobile VPN offers multifactor authentication and strong encryption to ensure transmitted data remains secure. For public-safety professionals working in the field, the solution enables persistent wireless access to all office applications, including emergency dispatch, fire-inspection data, police reports, vehicle and identity checkups, and other records-management systems.

Klein Electronics introduced the Blackbox+ series professional two-way radio. According to the company, the radio has a compact design with all metal chassis and meets IP-54 water resistant standards. It is a software-programmable radio that works with UHF/VHF and offers 16 channels with scan and priority scan.

P25 MOBILE RADIOS

EF Johnson Technologies added UHF and VHF mobile radios to its 5300 ES Series Project 25-compliant product portfolio. The radios include SMARTNET/SmartZone operation, over-the-air rekeying and reprogramming, support for as many as 864 talkgroups, P25 packet data and DES/DES-OFB/AES encryption algorithms.
