First responder communications suite
Federal Signal’s Safety and Security Systems Group announced a suite of interoperability systems that support public emergency-warning systems as well as first-responder mobile data applications.
The suite consists of multiple components, including the SmartMSG alert system which distributes emergency alerts via voice, text or instant messaging to handhelds, landline devices or e-mail accounts.
Another is the VelocityMDS, an in-vehicle mobile data software system that connects directly to an emergency operations center. The software supports multiple devices, such as Panasonic Toughbooks and handhelds operating on the Windows Mobile operating system. The suite starts at $5000.

Tower spotlights
Havis-Shields unveiled the Xenon H.I.D. Collins Dynamics series of tower spotlights — which also can be used on fire apparatus (shown) — that use the company’s metal halide bulb, which is rated at 3300 hours. They have a rubber gasket housing and liquid tight-strain relief, which together keep out water, the company said. Each spotlight draws 3.5 amps of power and is available in deck (shown) or hand-held versions.

MIMO omni-directional antenna
TerraWave Solutions released an 802.11n multiple input/multiple output (MIMO) omnidirectional antenna. The dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz ceiling-mount antenna is designed to operate with the Cisco 1252 access point. It consists of three 2.4 GHz and three 5 GHz omni-directional antennas in one enclosure.

High-power 4.9 GHz WiMAX solution
M/A-COM announced the availability of new high-power 4.9 GHz WiMAX base stations and subscriber stations designed for use by utilities and public safety agencies.
With the new VIDA solution, operators can build wide-area networks for video surveillance, voice-over-IP and telephony applications, the company said. Because the solution is built to WiMAX specifications, it has an open-standard architecture that includes the encryption and quality-of-service features that are part of the standard.

Spread spectrum transceiver module
Intuicom released the C1000µ transceiver module, which touts line-of-sight range of up to 60 miles, data rates up to 1.2 Mb/s, 128-bit AES encryption and 900 MHz frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum technology. It was designed for integration into military and aerospace gear such as unmanned vehicles, robotics and portable devices, according to the company. Single unit pricing starts at $400.

iDEN base station
RadioFrame Networks unveiled the MC-Series Standard Capacity, an indoor iDEN base station that is contained in a single rack with room for microwave equipment and batteries. The software-driven base station supports the 800 and 900 MHz bands with Tx and Rx amplification and filtering. It also uses the company’s enhanced remote-management system to reduce the requirement for onsite maintenance, according to the company.

Video surveillance solution
Cornet Technology, a provider of ruggedized, closed-circuit TV surveillance products, launched the iVDO SmartEdge, a surveillance solution that integrates ObjectVideo’s OnBoard intelligent video software with the company’s IP-based encoders and video-management software platform. After detecting security events such as unauthorized entry and exit, unattended packages, and suspicious loitering, the system transmits wireless alerts to command-and-control personnel, according to the company.
