Software-configurable antenna control unit
Radio Frequency Systems announced the introduction of the Optimizer Universal, a software-configurable antenna control unit (ACU) that lets network operators monitor and control tower-top operations, either at the tower base or from a network operations center. The formal unveiling of the device, which is part of the company’s Optimizer RT remote tower-top control system, will occur at the Mobile World Congress exhibition to be held in Barcelona, Spain, in February. The solution is designed to save network operators money when executing protocol conversions by eliminating the labor-intensive change out of tower-top ACU hardware, the company said.

Test solution for LTE gear
Agilent Technologies introduced the 3GPP LTE modulation analysis solution for RF and modulation testing of long-term evolution (LTE) transceivers and components. When used in conjunction with the company’s 89600 Series vector signal analysis software, the solution provides analysis of both uplink (SC-FDMA) and downlink (OFDMA) signals, which lets engineers perform transmitter measurements on both the base station and the mobile station using the same solution. The solution supports all LTE bandwidths up to 20 MHz with Type 1 FDD frame structure, supports all modulation formats and sequences, and analyzes any antenna ports defined for the downlink transmitter, the company said.

RFID security platform
Atmel Corp. of San Jose, Calif., announced the CryptoRF, a 13.56 MHz RFID solution that features a 64-bit cryptographic engine and a mutual authentication feature, which together make it more difficult for counterfeiters to ply their craft. According to the company, said labels and tags based on the CryptoRF solution are “virtually impossible to copy.” The solution is targeted to sectors prone to counterfeiting, such as high-value consumer goods and software, and to sectors that require a high level of product tracking, such as pharmaceuticals.
Atmel also announced an initiative with SkyeTek of Westminster, Colo., to develop an RFID security demonstration kit based on the CryptoRF family of products and SkyeTek’s SkyeModule M2 RFID reader.
Finally, Atmel announced the ATA8x0x family of UHF ASK/FSK receivers and transmitters. Applications include remote controls for consumer and industrial systems; access control, alarm and telemetry systems; energy metering; and active RFID tagging systems, the company said.
