Access points deployed in caverns

The European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, is using Proxim Wireless's ORiNOCO AP-4000 mesh access points to extend the range of the laboratory's Wi-Fi network and to monitor the lab's calorimeters as they descend into an underground cavern where experiments are conducted. CERN deployed the access points to address network interference issues caused by metal, reflections and the existence of multiple networks.
In other news, Proxim announced that Romeoville, Ill.-based Lewis University has deployed its ORiNOCO AP-4000MR Wi-Fi mesh access points. The university purchased additional access points in order to offer outdoor, wireless Internet access to students and visitors, according to the company.
Also, Pepperell, Mass., officials chose Proxim's Tsunami MP.11 point-to-multipoint base stations and subscriber units for a communitywide network.
