Active RFID market to explode by 2016

Dec 1, 2006 12:00 PM

IDTechEx's recently released report, “The Business Case for Active RFID,” noted the industry is rapidly growing, and sales of active systems, including tags, will increase from $550 million in 2006 to $6.78 billion in 2016. In addition, ABI Research said in a report that the market for RFID solutions deployed by aerospace and defense companies will exceed $2 billion by 2011. The report identified the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector as one that shows particular promise.

“RFID can fulfill many MRO event requirements by enabling real-time track-and-trace and unique identification,” said Michael Liard, ABI Research director, in a statement. He further described RFID as an “enabling technology that can facilitate a shift from corrective to predictive maintenance strategies.”
