Catalyst launches interoperability solution

Oct 1, 2006 12:00 PM, By Mary Rose Roberts

Catalyst Communications Technologies introduced Intellilink, an interoperability solution that bridges radio systems on disparate networks. It is a stand-alone solution that creates a peer-to-peer, network-to-network bridge between two networks using radio control over IP technology.

The solution supports Network Address Translation (NAT), an existing IP technology that lets users multiply the number of computing devices that can access external networks and protects private IP addresses. In addition, it can transmit radio control information between networks. It also can translate talkgroups and radio channels between different radio systems. For example, audio from a specific channel on one system can be transmitted to a different channel on a separate radio system using a single control station, according to the company.

In other news, Catalyst and Northrop Grumman announced they were selected by the Department of Homeland Security's SAFECOM program to identify five-year parameters and requirements for communications and interoperability.
