IBM claims chipset boosts transmission speeds tenfold

IBM recently announced the development of a small, low-cost Wi-Fi chipset based on its silicon germanium technology the that company said would allow wireless devices to receive and transmit signals up to 10 times faster than current Wi-Fi networks.
The 60 GHz chipset incorporates a receiver, transmitter and two antennas. Because the antennas are embedded in the chipset, fewer components are needed, which reduces system cost, IBM said. Targeted applications for the chipset include wireless personal area networks.
