IEEE updates WPAN standard

The IEEE Standards Association announced it has updated its 802.15.4 standard, which governs low-rate, wireless personal area networks. Changes include two additional physical layers for higher data rates at lower frequency bands (at 868 MHz and 915 MHz), an updated security mechanism and alterations to the MAC sub-layer, according to the IEEE.
