Las Vegas PD deploys wireless inmate tracking

Oct 1, 2007 12:00 PM

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department selected Omnilink Systems' advanced wireless offender monitoring solution for the Clark County Detention Center house-arrest program. The company's monitoring solution uses a combination of global positioning systems, wireless-network technologies, RFID and situation-specific sensors to transmit real-time information to a monitoring center using commercial cellular networks. It also features automated voice alerts when a location violation has occurred and a victim safeguard that tracks the proximity of a victim's off-the-shelf cell phone in relation to a particular offender. According to the company, if the offender comes within a certain distance of the victim in situations where a judge has mandated a restraining order, the system alerts the victim, monitoring officers and law enforcement.
