Pennsylvania transit authority awards $17.8 million contract

Dulles, Va.-based Orbital Sciences Corp.'s Transportation Management Systems division has been awarded a $17.8 million contract by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority to provide and manage communications for the Philadelphia area's paratransit system, which serves seniors and people with disabilities.

The system includes a wide-area, six-site data system for communications between central operations and the agency's fleet of vehicles. The company's OrbStar mobile data terminal will be installed on each vehicle in the fleet to provide two-way communications and real-time manifest updates.
