Virginia city field tests SquareLoop messaging system

The city of Manassas, Va., has begun a beta test of SquareLoop's location-based messaging system. During the test, which will run through March, first responders will receive geographically targeted messages on their Motorola and BlackBerry devices operating on Sprint Nextel's iDEN network. The messages will include AMBER alerts, evacuation messages and traffic-congestion alerts.
