Washington state upgrades radio system

Alcatel has deployed an advanced digital voice and data communications network in the state of Washington that replaces the legacy analog system. The company said the new system would let the state manage its public-safety communications network from a single platform and allocate bandwidth according to application. The current network supports both the state police and department of transportation, but other agencies are expected to join the network later this year.
