Affiliated Computer Services launched a 911 dispatching and mobile data system for the Oklahoma City police and fire departments. The system consists of GPS equipment and software applications installed in police and fire vehicles that include a dispatch system with map-based displays that show the locations of emergency calls from wireless callers. Approximately 750 police and 100 fire vehicles were equipped with the system. It replaces a 20-year-old dispatch system and uses the city’s year-old wireless broadband network that spans more than 550 square miles, according to the company.
