Florida power company installs Silver Spring Networks’ smart meters

Florida Power & Light Company installed 50,000 of Silver Spring Networks’ smart meters in Broward County, Fla., so the power company could monitor electrical grid performance in real-time to preempt service interruptions. The smart meters communicate with other meters and electronic devices to create a wireless mesh network, which supports data transfer, the company said.
