HP ships notebook with Verizon Wireless EV-DO access

Feb 1, 2006 12:00 PM, BY JAMES CARELESS

HP announced it is shipping a mobile broadband notebook that includes integrated access via Wi-Fi or Verizon Wireless's EV-DO network without the purchase of additional cards.

The HP Compaq nc6140 Notebook PC is not the first notebook announced to offer this wireless access combination, but it is available immediately, an HP spokesman said. The starting price for the notebook — featuring a 15-inch wide viewing angle display and weight of 6 pounds — is $1399.

Currently, the nc6140 only allows integrated access to the Verizon Wireless EV-DO network, but the HP spokesman said the company is working with other carriers to include access to their high-speed wireless networks in the future.
