M/A-COM announced today that the York County (Pa.) Board of Commissioners has authorized the county's Department of Emergency Services to negotiate exclusively with the vendor for the deployment of a Project 25 simulcast public-safety radio system that will cost $31 million to $33.5 million. The system will include a 22-site UHF digital trunked network, a 16-site digital paging network, mutual-aid base stations, a radio dispatch console system, P25IP radio equipment, and an alarm and control system, the vendor said.

M/A-COM already provides a statewide public-safety radio system based on the company's OpenSky technology. The system is designed to provide mobile coverage over 95% of the state's 45,000 square miles and 67 counties, the company said. Currently the system supports 10,000 users and is designed for a capacity of up to 150,000 users.

Today's announcement follows an announcement made two weeks ago regarding the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's decision to award M/A-COM an $8.9 million contract to deploy an IP-based 700/800 MHz OpenSky wireless voice and data network. The new network will serve about 2000 LVMPD officers and provide interoperable communications with surrounding agencies, the company said. It also will let users transmit voice and short data messages, as well as file transfers, and will integrate with the department’s dispatch center.
