BellSouth unveils two-way text messaging handset

BellSouth yesterday introduced a two-way FRS/GMRS text messaging handset that allows users to send text and voice messages without incurring service charges. Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the units offer a 10-mile range. They will be available in the second quarter of 2004, said the carrier. Other features include voice activation, call alert, automatic squelch, power save, channel monitor and channel scan.
