Meru Networks today unveiled the AP440, a IEEE 802.11n wireless access point. The access point contains four IEEE 802.11n radios that support access rates of at 300 megabits per second (Mbps) for a 1.2 gigabit-per-second capacity, said Joe Epstein, the company’s senior director of technology. Epstein said the radios are backward compatible with the legacy 802.11a/b/g standards and each radio can be dedicated to a specific frequency band.

In other news, the company introduced Wireless Virtual Reality, a network-management software product that lets users walk through three-dimensional representations of wireless LAN deployments. Epstein said the software lets users view real-time, 3D color-coded views of network coverage and signal propagation patterns. It shows areas of weak or strong coverage, as well as floor-to-floor and cross-elevation interactions, he said.
