APCO to help train Afghanistan emergency communicators

The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials this week said that the Kabul City Police (KCP) Communications Center Working Group has selected the APCO Institute Public Safety Telecommunicator I course as the standard it will use for training Afghanistan's first public safety communications professionals.
The training is part of an overall effort designed to establish an emergency call center system that is similar to the 911 system in the U.S. Before training begins, the working group will review and modify APCO’s course materials and then translate them into local languages.
"APCO International is honored to have been selected for this important project," said APCO International President Greg Ballentine, in a statement. "Ensuring the safety of the world's citizens is a huge part of APCO International's mission and we are grateful to ensure that mission reaches the ones who need it the most right now."
