AT&T Wireless announced it has signed a contract to provide Wireless Priority Service (WPS). During emergencies when wireless network capacity is strained, calls placed by government-authorized users—including national security officials, first responders and personnel employed in critical infrastructure industries—would be “moved to the front of the line” so they can be completed using the next available wireless channel, AT&T said. To use WSP, which is overseen by the National Communications System (NCS), users simply dial *272 before placing a call. NCS authorizes users for WSP using criteria developed by the Federal Communications Commission.
