Calypso Wireless signs trial agreement with Ecutel

Jun 22, 2005 11:54 AM

Calypso Wireless, a broadband wireless device and technology manufacturer, has signed a field trial installation agreement with Ecuador Telecom-Ecutel SA, a wireless local loop and telephony service provider.

Under the agreement, Ecutel will test Calypso Wireless’ ASNAP technology, which allows mobile users to switch back and forth between GSM/GPRS/CDMA cellular networks and Wi-Fi wireless local area networks using the 802.11 standard, according to Calypso.

Individuals who own Calypso’s ASNAP cellular phones will be able to access any Wi-Fi zone as well as the Internet at broadband speeds that reach 11 Mb/s. This will allow for movie-quality real-time videoconferencing on Calypso’s C1250i mobile phone.
