Proxim launches Wi-Fi access point for smaller enterprises

Oct 1, 2004 12:00 PM

Proxim Corp. announced this week announced it has added an entry-level model to its line of ORiNOCO Wi-Fi access points. The AP-700 supports IEEE 802.11i with AES encryption and offers more advanced rogue AP and client detection, the company said. The new security and performance features of the AP-700 are part of Proxim's Release 2.5 software enhancement that is now available in all ORiNOCO access points.

With Release 2.5, all Proxim ORiNOCO access points now support Super Mode for 802.11g and .11a, allowing customers with Atheros a/b/g client cards to achieve throughputs up to 30 Mb/s, which the company called “a significant increase” over other currently available access points.
