SmartLink to deploy interoperability solution in Western states

Mar 5, 2004 12:00 PM

SmartLink Radio Networks announced it has been chosen by the Western States Contracting Alliance (WSCA) to supply its public-safety communications interoperability solutions. The WSCA is a coalition of states that have combined resources to evaluate and validate a broad range of public-safety communications requirements. SmartLink now is eligible to participate in a program worth an estimated $500 million over a three-year period, with an option to extend the contract to a maximum of ten years.

SmartLink’s solution is a softswitch-based product that ties in to repeaters in the field, receives their calls, tears down the calls to the “least common denominator,” and then rebuilds the calls to match the frequencies and protocols of a predefined talk group, all within 250 milliseconds.
