The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials said the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office would implement the APCO Institute Emergency Medical Dispatch Program, which helps agencies to effectively organize and manage emergency medical services resources and to provide medical assistance to callers until trained emergency medical personnel arrive at the scene.

The sheriff’s department serves a population of 36,000, and has a staff of more than 100 personnel. The department has two dispatchers on duty at a time and answers more than 10,000 calls for law enforcement, fire and rescue services per month, APCO said.

The APCO Institute offers training, educational resources and consulting services to public-safety communicators throughout the United States and in other countries.
