Aug 4, 2004 12:00 PM

3Com said this week it had formed an alliance with Wi-Fi gateway vendors that eventually would result in “effortless, plug-and-play solutions” for Wi-Fi hotspots around the world, 3Com said. Companies joining the alliance are Aptilo Networks, IP3 Networks, Momadix, PatronSoft, Pronto Networks and SolutionInc. Each company’s wireless products have passed interoperability testing with 3Com’s wireless products, 3Com said, adding that the companies would combine their billing an authentication gateways and software with 3Com’s wireless access points, Power over Ethernet technology and security devices to build “complete hotspot systems” for hotels, airport terminals, train stations, community centers and retail outlets.
