University team tests wireless system

A team of students and professors from Tempe, Ariz.’s, University of Advancing Technology recently tested a 30-mile, 802.11b wireless prototype network running along Interstate 19 for the state’s Telecommunications & Information Council. The team found network connectivity was sporadic due to the “802.11b underpinnings,” according to the university.

Motorola launches new enterprise wireless services

Motorola announced a new suite of wireless security services for enterprise customers. The suite offers myriad planning, prevention and monitoring services designed to improve network security, including security assessments, design and implementation services, policy development and incident-response planning.

Analysts predict future European M2M applications

Analysis firm Berg Insight recently released a report stating European business will connect more than 25 million machines to mobile networks by 2009. Utility meters and vehicles were identified as the segments with the greatest potential for wireless growth followed by the security and retail sectors.

Vendor expands to U.S. market

Wireless communications provider HYT announced its expansion into the U.S. and Canadian markets. Based in Shenzhen, China, the company produces two-way radios featuring built-in voice scrambling, man-down, and DTMF encode and decode functions.

American Red Cross to receive more donated radios

The Eton Corp. will donate 2000 self-powered radios to American Red Cross chapters to prepare communities for the upcoming hurricane season. The company said it distributed 10,000 radios in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
