Midwestern hospital deploys WLAN for secure, mobile data access

Okla.-based Duncan Regional Hospital chose Trapeze Networks’ WLAN Mobility System for its campus-wide wireless installation. The WLAN lets hospital employees roam and access data stored on the network and promises security through a standards-based authentication and encryption system. Patients and their families also will have access to the network.

Collaboration results in RFID reader/tags for warehouse environments

LXE has certified RF Code as an integration partner. The companies now offer a hybrid, real-time locating system based on LXE’s RX1 rugged truck-mounted RFID reader and RF’s Tavis Mobile Suite. The suite lets passive RFID tags serve as reference points for a real-time location system in a warehouse environment. Combined with the reader, the operator is able to pinpoint the placement of specific pallets and assets.

Forum report addresses SDR pros, cons

The Software Defined Radio Forum completed its one-year study on how software-defined radio impacts public-safety communications. The results are available in a new report released by the forum titled, “Software Defined Radio Technology for Public Safety.” It discusses the pros and cons of SDR and whether the technology will lead to true, interoperable communications.

Next-generation fleet tracker system adds Motorola G20 modules

Networkcar announced that it recently entered into an agreement to add Motorola’s G20 wireless module to the next-generation of its GPRS-based Networkfleet wireless, vehicle-management system. Networkfleet collects data on vehicle location and engine performance of a vehicle’s engine computer and then wirelessly transmits the data to a network operation center. The addition of the G20 wireless module will add secure, wireless coverage options to the existing system, according to Networkcar.

Va. planning district commission adopts digital network solution

The Hampton Roads (Va.) Planning District Commission chose Alcatel to deliver its new, federally funded, digital communications network designed to enhance interoperability between city administrators, public-safety agencies and the U.S. Coast Guard. The network provides voice, data and video applications running over an IP architecture.
