NSA awards multimillion-dollar contract
Harris Corp. has been awarded a $41.6 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract by the National Security Agency (NSA). Harris will supply the NSA with the SecNet 54 Secure Wireless LAN product, which is crypto-modernization compliant. It operates with an in-line network encryptor using a pre-placed, symmetric key. It features maximum operating line-of-sight ranges of 100 meters indoors and 600 meters outdoors. Further extended ranges are possible with the use of external antennas and/or power amplifiers, according to the company.
NSA Type 1 certification and product availability for the 802.11 a/b/g configuration of SecNet 54 units is expected in the fall 2006. Each unit costs $7495.
London rail line deploys rugged mobile computers for real-time data
Symbol Technologies and Syclo worked in partnership with the London Underground to equip rail-line engineers with more than 200 rugged PPT8800 mobile computers running Syclo’s mobile, work-management solution. Field engineers now have access to mission-critical, real-time applications compared to the paper process previously employed. Users can view maps, photographs, download and attach information to work orders and upload information to databases, said the companies in a joint statement.
Video surveillance product offers real-time information in rail and bus lines
Integrian launched its TransitCam TC-50, an on-board, CCTV passenger-surveillance product. TransitCam TC-50 is a rugged, eight-camera solution for bus and light-rail systems to deploy real-time communications from transit organizations, homeland security and emergency first responders. TransitCam TC-50 is installed at New Jersey Transit and is being used in trials in California and Canada, according to Integrian.
Rugged mobile computers for wireless data collection run VoxBrowser
Voxware is now certified to run its VoiceXML Browsers, VoxBrowser, on LXE’s VX6, VX7, MX3X and MX7 rugged, mobile computers for wireless data collection. The VX6 and VX7 are voice-enabled, vehicle-mounted computers used in voice-driven logistics applications. The MX3X and MX7 are next-generation, dual-use, hand-held computers.
Nortel distributes in-building wireless products
LGC Wireless signed a distribution agreement with Nortel. Nortel will distribute LGC’s in-building, wireless, InterReach Unison systems as part of its CDMA-infrastructure portfolio.
Companies collaborate on hand-held RFID readers
TAGSYS and PSION TEKLOGIX will offer portable RFID terminals designed for the distribution and logistics industries. The companies will integrate TAGSYS’ RFID modules into a selection of PSION TEKLOGIX handheld terminals for mobile handheld RFID readers. The readers offer with, imaging and wireless communication options, according to a joint company statement.
