Airspan introduces new base station and access point

Airspan Networks announced the availability of its AS.MAX base station and ProST Wi-Fi access point for the public safety and municipal wireless markets. The system operates in the 4.9 GHz band for public safety and in the unlicensed 5.8 GHz band for municipal wireless. The combination of 802.11 Wi-Fi for access and 802.16 WiMAX for backhaul lets users have the transmittal range of a WiMAX and the flexibility of Wi-Fi in one system, according to the company.

Ill. hospital deploys wireless utility

Naperville, Ill.-based Edward Hospital and Health Services will install InnerWireless’ medical-grade, wireless utility in four of its facilities in Illinois. The system supports wireless coverage for multiple applications and devices, such as pagers, two-way radios, wireless patient monitoring, Wi-Fi, VoIP and cellular phones.

China post chooses RFID to track mail

Symbol landed a contract with the China, Shanghai Post for a family of its products to be used to monitor mail en route. The post office will use the company’s rugged, reusable RFID tags, XR400 RFID fixed reader, antennas and the MC9000 mobile computers. This will enable the post office to automatically track mailbags from individual post offices to various collection centers, according to the company.
