The Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) will partner with Rusk State Park on June 25-26 to sponsor FieldDay ’05, an event the ARRL has organized since 1933 to promote amateur radio and let operators hone their skills.

“Each year, amateur radio operators or hams, gather to practice their communications and emergency preparedness skills,” event coordinator Lisa McClellan (KB5NEB) said in a prepared statement. “This is done by setting up radios and antennas in a place not normally used for radio, utilizing generators and battery power, and then establishing communications with as many other stations throughout the U.S and Canada as they can. During this event, amateur radio stations will be set up and operating from the park, as well as from a caboose on the Texas State Railroad.”

FieldDay ’05 is open to amateur radio operators and the general public. In addition to radio-related activities, normal Rusk State Park attractions and Texas State Railroad excursions will be available.
