Sprint yesterday announced that the state of Georgia has awarded it with a one-year contract to provide wireless voice and data services to state and local agencies.

Wireless data services available under the contract include Sprint PCS Business Connection Enterprise Edition, which lets users access agency e-mail via web-enable phones, smart devices and laptops anywhere on Sprint’s nationwide wireless network. In addition, the contract makes available Sprint PCS Ready Link, a nationwide push-to-talk service.

"Providing enhanced mobile communications for the State of Georgia employees is critical to our focus on helping government entities experience productivity gains and cost savings," Cathy Bryant, vice president for business development and state government in Sprint’s government systems division, said in a prepared statement. "Many states, like Georgia, are seeking more efficient ways to meet objectives, and wireless services help state employees access critical agency resources so they can conduct their job from anywhere."
