CoConnect begins wireless mesh deployment
CoConnect this week announced it has begun deployment of its Metropolitan Wireless Mesh network in St. George, Utah, to serve residents and enterprises in the market.
With the installation of 200 wireless nodes and the buildout of a carrier-class backbone, CoConnect estimates the network will be able to serve as many as 50,000 new customers in the area. For residential users, 56 kb/s access will be free, while higher speeds will be provided at staggered costs–from $14.95 per month for 256 kp/s to $39.95 for 45 Mb/s, speeds that will enable the delivery of IPTV and video-on-demand. Enterprise accounts will be charged differently.
“We are very excited to see this day finally come to fruition. We have been preparing for this deployment for over two years,” CoConnect CEO Tim Thayne said in a prepared statement. “When completed, within the next 30-60 days, our network will be the largest wireless metro mesh network of its kind.”
