Georgia radio systems manager receives Smith Award
Motorola and the Motorola Trunked Users Group (MTUG) presented the Danny Smith Award to Tracy Roberts, radio systems manager for the Cobb County Department of Public Safety in Georgia.
The award was presented at MTUG’s annual meeting, held in conjunction with the 69th Annual Conference and Exposition of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International (APCO).
Roberts was recognized for her leadership within the national MTUG organization as well as her work with the group’s Georgia chapter. She joined MTUG in 1995 and became president of the Georgia chapter in 2001, where she is currently serving her second term. MTUG brings together new and experienced users of Motorola trunked two-way radio communications systems to share firsthand knowledge about implementing this technology, discuss communications-related issues and evaluate new technology, features and equipment.
The Danny Smith Award, named for the former manager of radio services for the city of Tulsa, Okla., recognizes individuals who have shown outstanding leadership and service to MTUG. Smith was instrumental in founding MTUG in 1987. He was known nationally for his dedication to public safety communications and his skill in bringing people together to find solutions to communications challenges. Smith served on the MTUG board for six years. Members of the MTUG organization select the annual award recipients.
