Thales announced it is a core member of the General Dynamics JTRS Cluster 5 team that has been awarded a $295 million contract by the U.S. Army to develop small, lightweight software-defined radios for use by all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. The contract was awarded in July 2004, but the award was appealed by a competing team. The U.S. Government Accountability Office rejected the appeal last week, Thales said.

In other news, Thales said it has opened a dedicated software development center adjacent to its main facility in Clarksburg, Md. The new facility houses all of the company’s SEI CMM Level 3 software development activities, the company said.

Finally, Thales announced that Diane Reineke has joined the company as vice president of business development. She comes to Thales from Lockheed Martin, where she was director of Business Development for Army C4I programs.
