Last week I wrote a commentary (Squawk Box, January 28) in which I urged the FCC to rethink its plan to reconstitute the board of directors of the Public Safety Spectrum Trust — the licensee for 700 MHz airwaves that would be paired with commercial spectrum in the band to create a nationwide broadband network for first responders — which would result in the ouster of current chairman Harlin McEwen.

This week, Glenn Bischoff discusses the matter with Charles Werner, chief of the Charlottesville, Va., Fire Department, who also is SAFECOM Executive Council chairman and a member of the National Public Safety Telecommunications Council's board, as well as other public-safety communications organizations.
