announced it has been awarded a $663,000 contract to deploy Project 25-compliant VHF radio equipment for use on the Alaska Land Mobile Radio System (ALMR). Portable and mobile radios will operate on the ALMR network to replace non-compliant legacy trunking equipment, and will be used to support U.S. Army garrison staff and to provide day-to-day radio operations.

The contract is significant because it represents one of the first examples of joint sponsorship between the federal and state governments concerning the upgrading of telecommunications infrastructure, according to the company. “The federal government and the states are working together to ensure interoperability, and EFJohnson is a significant participant in this new method of cooperation,” said Michael Jalbert, chairman and CEO of EFJohnson parent EFJ, Inc., in a statement.
